In April 2026, members of the Water Splitting Group project SolSTEP, Ebrahim Abedini and Jacob Schneidewind, participated in the first SINATRA Travelling Conference across Belgium and the Netherlands together with researchers of the SINATRA Research Initiative.
The conference connected young researchers with European political, industrial, and scientific stakeholders through visits and discussions in Brussels, Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam. Highlights included meetings with representatives of the European Commission, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and Horizon Europe funding stakeholders, as well as scientific exchange at the University of Antwerp.
The programme also provided insights into innovation ecosystems and start-up culture through visits to BlueCity Rotterdam and ChainCraft Amsterdam, focusing on circular economy concepts and sustainable chemistry.
During the conference, SolSTEP presented its research on: “Two-step photocatalysis for the integrated production of solar fuels.”
The travelling conference fostered valuable interdisciplinary exchange and strengthened connections between academia, policy, and industry within the fields of sustainable energy and hydrogen research.
