Responsibilities
The duties of the Examinations Committee are set out in the Examination Regulations of Friedrich Schiller University: in particular, it ensures that the provisions of the Examination Regulations are observed and that examinations are conducted in accordance with the regulations.
To ensure that matters are dealt with promptly, the Examinations Committee delegates some of its day-to-day tasks – in particular routine cases with clear criteria – to the Examinations Office and to the programme coordinators. These include, for example, the recognition of academic and assessed coursework and examinations, the granting of compensation for disadvantages, the appointment of examiners, and admission to final year theses.
The Examination Board itself retains responsibility for tasks that require a case-by-case assessment, are of fundamental importance or entail special responsibility. In particular, it is responsible for:
- the decision on the recognition and credit of knowledge and skills acquired outside the degree programme (up to 50 per cent), e.g. certificates
- deciding on appeals against decisions made in examination procedures,
- the decision on hardship applications following the final failure of a compulsory module,
- decision on extensions to deadlines where the examination deadline is about to expire (final deadline),
- hearing and decision on cases of deception
- decisions regarding the termination of work on a final year thesis.
The Examinations Committee consists of representatives from the three staff categories: professors, mid-level academic staff and students. The term of office for members is usually three years; for student members, it is usually one year.
The Examinations Committee usually meets at least twice per semester and as required.
All full proposals from students must be submitted via the ticketing system.
