Examination Committee

Responsibilities and members

Responsibilities

Common student concerns, such as hardship applications and changes to module catalogues and amendments to the study regulations, fall within the remit of the Examinations Committees. Changes may be required if responsibility for courses is transferred to other colleagues and names or the focus of the courses need to be amended. Furthermore, feedback from students is taken very seriously and used to review the feasibility of the degree programmes.

Each degree programme has an Examinations Committee which makes all key decisions relating to teaching. Within the faculty, the six Examinations Committees for the chemistry degree programmes, five for the degree programmes of the Institute of Geography, three Examinations Committees for the geosciences degree programmes and one Examinations Committee for the Materials Science degree programme meet regularly (as required, but at least twice a year).

Each Examinations Committee consists of representatives from the three staff categories: professors, mid-level academic staff and students.

Please note: From the winter semester 2026/27 onwards, there will be only one Examinations Committee at the Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Sciences. This is based on the new framework examination regulations, which have been in force since 1 April 2026. More information on the framework examination regulations de
