Forest regeneration
Description and objectives
The subproject "Recording and evaluation of silvicultural strategies of deadwood management to aid ecosystem service provisioning" is comprised of two main work packages.
In the first work package an inventory of the stand, deadwood and regeneration situation will be carried out before and after the establishment of the deadwood variants. This way the effects of the different deadwood variants on the regeneration establishment (regeneration density, tree species composition, growth, browsing) will be accurately documented.
The second work package involves a literature review of the ecosystem services provided by specific deadwood management types. This review will compile, categorize and evaluate deadwood management types as a component of modern silvicultural concepts. The findings of the review will be supplemented by the empirical data from the first workpackage and from the other subprojects in order to derive region-specific recommendations for action.
