UNESCO Workshop on sustainability science

As part of the MOST program (Management of Social Transformation), UNESCO hosted the workshop Toward the establishment of BRIDGES: Action to promote sustainability science in Paris from 11-12 June, 2019. The event was attended by experts from UNESCO and its partner institutions, as well as the International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH). During the workshop, strategies for building global partnerships for sustainability research were discussed and further developed. The event stems from the Guidelines for Sustainability Science in Research and Education published by UNESCO in 2017 as part of its new paradigm for sustainability research. One of the main goals of the workshop was to develop ways to implement this new paradigm. Benno Werlen presented the proposal for an "International Science and Humanities Decade for Global Understanding" (IDGU) during the event. The event in Paris is part of a three-part workshop series, including the CIPSH-UNESCO meeting held in Mação (Portugal) in March and the workshop in Sigtuna (Sweden) in September.
